DUCSU elections: VP candidates make various promises in election debate
This election debate was held at the Student-Teacher Center of Dhaka University on Saturday afternoon. The debate was organized by the Dhaka University Debating Society regarding the DUCSU election.
Taking part in the debate, Abdul Quader, Vice President (VP) candidate of the Anti-Discrimination Student Parliament, said, “As a VP candidate, my main task will be to build bridges between the university administration, teachers and students. Solving housing problems, simplifying admission policies and ensuring accountability of teachers.”
Abdul Quader said, “The first task will be to decide how the political system and political structure will be formed here. Because, the politics of Dhaka University is never free from outside politics. No matter how much we say, it is not possible to build an academic university by going beyond politics. This requires political will and the right political structure.’
Quader said that this is not a new promise, but rather the work that he started earlier, if elected, he will formally complete it. Emphasizing on the allocation of seats for every student, he said that a seat will be ensured for him the day a student is admitted.
Stating that the current party-based, biased recruitment and posting system is destroying the environment of the university, Abdul Quader stressed on ensuring transparency and accountability in the recruitment of all administrative positions.
